American Idol and the art of chasing your dream

Were you uncontrollably inspired yesterday?

American Idol and the art of chasing your dream. Was originally attracted to Idol because of Simon Cowell’s brutal honesty – it provided inspiration during some tough years at Disney and Disney Institute.

Fell away from Idol for a few years, but currently hooked again, with renewed commitment.

Why?

Unusually inspired by the artistry, and the overwhelming risk-taking that must be present to stand out in a sea of hopefuls.

Kinda like our own personal world, eh?

One of life’s most overlooked opportunities suffocates us

Midlifers at Disney's Casting Center
Creating Magic? Finally meeting after six years.

Why do we let what we can’t do stop us from what we can do?

How do you thank someone for their overwhelmingly remarkable demonstration of community?

One of life’s most overlooked opportunities suffocates us. And it happens so slowly, we don’t even notice.

We fear failing or embarrassment, so we wait and do nothing. This poisons our soul.

What if we simply did what we could, even if it felt small?

Because haven’t we been taught since childhood that it’s the little things that count?

Yesterday was unexpected proof.

How intentionality teaches you

Horseback rider in Orlando neighborhood
While writing yesterday quickly captured neighbor riding her horse through our front yard.

It’s taken our entire lifetime to get to this day called today.

When we live intentionally, everything becomes our teacher.

Everything.

Paying attention can only happen when we slow down.

Slowing down is not socially promoted or even remotely possible in today’s world.

Is it?

Give up or slowly work on slowing down.

Shedding, purging, letting go, simplifying, pausing to sit – and listen to our own breath.

Eventually time runs out

You can read, listen to podcasts, attend classes, or find mentors to help you discover your life’s purpose.

Or you could get real and do a simple exercise.

Don’t know your purpose? Start with a blank page, “God put me here to…”.

Don’t stop writing until what you read makes you cry.

Is social media really changing your world?

After nearly six years, Donna and jeff finally meet in person at Epcot yesterday, January 20, 2015.

What is remarkable about these two is that they have read every Mid Life Celebration post since the beginning. Well over 10,000 posts.

Every post is written to encourage (even antagonize) the reader to think differently. Deeper.

Thank you Donna Flanagin.
